Message pullies is critical to the timing and that was assumed to be understood when the belt waw first installed as indicated on page EM18. But once the belt is installed and the engine has been run (as ZPUHost has done) the white marks on the belt will not easily or conveinently line up as you direct ZPUHost to do in your 2/17/09 post. How often the belt white marks line up is not often and this was discussed in a post in the past by a TTer. The marks on the cam and crank pullies lining up with the backing plate marks and placing cylindere #1 at TDC of compression stroke using the timing marks on the crank pully are the correct way to check the position of the belt for correct timing of the cams and the crank. Once this is done a tooth count between the pully marks as EM18 note would be the final step for a correct timing verification.

Of course one could start from scratch and remove the belt and reinstall is as per the install instructions on this site or EM18.
